Metro has advised customers to use Monument or Jesmond stations this weekend as Haymarket will be closed until next week.
In the early hours of Friday morning, Metro announced on its Twitter account that trains would not be stopping at Haymarket. And that will continue over the weekend and into next week as all three escalators are undergoing repair work.
One is the subject of long-term repairs, whilst the two others have both developed faults. Since Sunday evening, Haymarket has been exit only due to a fault on one of its escalators, and city centre commuters have had to board trains at Central Station or Monument.

And it has been confirmed that the works will continue next week, though engineers are doing "all that they can" to reopen the station as soon as possible.

A Nexus spokesperson said: "We're sorry that Haymarket station will be closed until next week while we repair escalators at the station. Customers should use Monument or Jesmond instead.
"Our engineers have carried out detailed inspections of the escalators following recent faults. We need to order in and fit new parts and this will take several days.
"Haymarket is a busy station and we understand the inconvenience this will cause - we are doing all we can to re-open that station quickly."
