Hay fever sufferers praise 'miracle cure' £4 tablet as symptoms disappear

An over the counter hay fever tablet has been hailed as a "miracle cure" on TikTok after British users turn to the brand to help with the increasing pollen count. In posts on the social media platform, users have praised Allevia, an antihistamine which retails for £4.

For millions, warmer weather means hay fever season has arrived. Around one in four people suffer from hay fever each year, over 16 million people. The problem is getting worse with each passing summer, with extraordinary research suggesting the number of people living with allergies in the UK is rising by five percent every year.

There are two types of hay fever, seasonal and perennial. Seasonal hay fever usually occurs during the time of year in which plants produce more pollen, while perennial hay fever is year round. If you usually begin suffering from hay fever in the spring, the likelihood is you are allergic to plant pollens. To treat this type, patients are often recommended to use nasal sprays and antihistamines.

With the pollen count now high, many are turning to Allevia after glowing reviews online. The tablets, which claim to provide relief from symptoms for up 24 hours, were previously only available on prescription up until 2021, when they were re-classified. It means they are now available on general sale and available in most supermarkets and chemists.

Last year, users took to social media to describe their experience with the medicine. Ben Newmark said: "He hadn't felt this good in the summer for a decade".

Matty Ester added: "I have gone from having the worst hay fever you will ever see anyone have in your whole life, to feeling like I’ve never had it. Allevia, you have cured me."

@Nikk1noodles said: "Fexofenadine aka Allevia 120mg over the counter at Boots. Took a couple of days to kick in but this week I've been hay fever-free. No itching, no eye drops, no nasal sprays. 10/10 would recommend."

While @RettsUK added: "Guys Allevia truly are the best hay fever tablets. I suffer from hay fever badly but with one a day, I haven't even had the slightest nose twitch in weeks!"
