In one of the more bizarre sequences that has played out on an NBA court this season, Atlanta Hawks guard Dejounte Murray appeared to get a technical foul for doing … nothing on Saturday night.
During a timeout against the Brooklyn Nets, Murray walked over to his team’s bench and sat down but could be seen being addressed by veteran referee Tony Brothers. Murray didn’t appear to acknowledge Brothers and just simply sat on the bench, and apparently, Brothers took it personally. Murray was assessed a technical foul for just sitting there while Brothers was talking, and after the game, the Hawks standout let his frustration be known.
“Getting A Tech Because There Was Nothing To Talk About Is UNBELIEVABLE!!!!” Murray wrote on X, formerly Twitter.

Occasionally, referees seem to take things personally on the court, but this incident appeared to veer toward the ridiculous. The Nets went on to win the game 114–102, and Murray finished with 20 points, 11 assists and six rebounds.
Atlanta dropped to 26–34 while Brooklyn improved to 24–36 on the season.
The NBA announced it had rescinded the technical foul Sunday afternoon after reviewing the call.
