It is hard to believe that it has already been three years since the United Kingdom left the European Union after the extremely divisive Brexit vote.
Being one of the most talked about and infamous political referendums that this country has faced, Brexit very clearly drew battle lines between the Britons who wanted to leave and the ones who wanted to stay.
As we look back, we can now say that Brexit 2016 was a time of uncertainty and hollow promise. No one really knew what would happen when we left, not even those leading us.
In the South West, the majority of us voted to leave and head to greener pastures. From 3,328,983 voters across the whole United Kingdom, 52.6% voted to leave the European Union, leaving the other 47.4% to be hoisted along for the ride.
Bristolians specifically hit the polls with an impressive turnout of over 73%, resulting in 228,445 votes - more than Manchester and Liverpool. The saddening news for us is that overwhelmingly Bristol voted to Remain.
In total 61.7% of Bristolians who went out to vote in the referendum voted to Remain, with a underwhelming 38.3% voting to Leave.
