NCT delays continue to be a major issue across Ireland with thousands facing lengthy waits for appointments.
We recently asked Dublin Live readers how long they waited for their most recent NCT appointment. Out of 284 respondents, 193 said they were waiting six months or more for an appointment, while 67 were waiting between two and five months and 24 waited one month.
The delays have caused many people to get their NCT appointment for free. According to the NCT standards of customer service, the programme "aims to ensure that the average lead time for an appointment at an individual NCT centre is less than or equal to 15 days".

In cases where a driver is left waiting for an appointment for over 28 days, they can get their NCT free of charge. However, there are a few exceptions to this rule.
A number of changes have recently been introduced to NCT, with three new items now being tested on cars. These are the collection of On-Board Fuel Consumption Monitoring (OBFCM) data, an emergency call system known as E-Call and an OBD inspection.
