Marco Silva refused to accept that Fulham’s performance against Everton was evidence that the Goodison Park club made a mistake in sacking him.
Silva was appointed Everton manager ahead of the 2018/19 season and guided the Blues to an eighth place in his first season in charge. However, his second campaign didn’t go to plan and he was sacked in December 2019 after a 5-2 defeat to Liverpool with Everton in 18th place upon his departure.
The Portuguese spent just under two years out of the game following his dismissal from Everton, before returning to management with Fulham at the start of last season. He then helped the club return to the top-flight at the first time of asking.

Saturday’s 0-0 at Craven Cottage was the first time Silva has come up against Everton since he was sacked by the Goodison Park club. Both sides had chances in the first-half, with the hosts then dominating the game in the second 45 minutes.
And when asked post-match if Silva felt his side’s performance was evidence the Blues made the wrong call in sacking him just under three years ago, he replied: “When it was? So many years to talk about and it is not the moment to talk about it.
“The game tonight was Fulham against Everton and not Marco Silva with Everton. It is not a moment to talk about this situation.
“Everything I can say I said in that moment. What has happened there and now I am here to talk about Fulham. If you want to ask me about the game I am pleased to talk about the game.”
Silva then continued, saying: “I have to prove first of all for myself that I am improving every single time. I have to prove that for my guys in the dressing room.
“Every single day I am taking the best from them. This is the pressure I put behind me and my staff as well to be better every single day as well.
“I have to remind you that in our first season with Everton we finished in eighth position. We fought until the last game to be in the Europa League. It was probably one of the best season’s they have had in I don’t know how many years.”
