Haunting pictures of ghost town caravan park on banks of beautiful Scottish river

A caravan park on the banks of a stunning Scottish river lies in ruins after being completely abandoned.

Empty mobile homes have been left to rot, windows have been smashed and doors are lying off their hinges.

Ownership of the site and the caravans themselves appears to be a mystery, Aberdeen Live reports, with sales information online showing none have been sold in recent years.

The once busy Persley Park Caravan Park sits next to the beautiful River Don in Aberdeen, and close to one of the region's busiest commuter routes.

People living nearby are not entirely sure when the last person left the site, but it has the look of a ghost town with household items including fridges, tables, an ironing board, magazines and newspapers left behind.

The park was initially set up as emergency housing, and never operated as a holiday destination.

Local councillor Barney Crockett recalls families living in "nice homes", but is unsure what the future holds.

He said: "It is something I often wonder about when I see it - about what can come next for the site. I knew people who had lived there in the past and it seemed like they were nice homes. It is a bit of a shame what has happened to it."

Aberdeen City Council was contacted by Aberdeen Live for comment about the ownership of the park but no response was received.
