Haunting final CCTV image of man, 75, ‘surrounded by three girls then pushed, kicked and punched to death’

Fredi Rivero seen in grainy CCTV image before his death on Seven Sisters Road, Islington - (Metropolitan Police)

This is the last image of a 75-year-old man allegedly killed by three teenage girls in a north London high street.

Fredi Rivero is seen in a grainy CCTV image captured shortly before he was surrounded, pushed, shoved, kicked and punched.

Mr Rivero had been attacked on Seven Sisters Road, Holloway at about 11.35pm last Thursday and died in hospital the next day.

The incident outside a McDonald’s restaurant was recorded by one of the defendants on her phone, Highbury Corner Youth Court heard.

Police officers and paramedics treated him at the scene but he died in hospital on Friday.

Three teenage girls, aged 14, 16 and 17, were arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm before the elderly victim’s death, but have now been charged with manslaughter.

The teenagers, who cannot be named because of their age, appeared in court on Monday.

Mr Rivero, thought to be a Bolivian national, was near a bus stop when the defendants alighted and surrounded him, the court heard.

They walked away but returned and the victim was then pushed and shoved, and at one point kicked and punched, the prosecution added.

One of the teenagers recorded the incident on her mobile, it was said.

Mr Rivero then fell over.

Chair of the bench Alexia Fetherstonhaugh remanded the defendants into youth detention accommodation and told them they will appear at the Old Bailey on March 31.

The Metropolitan Police said a special post-mortem examination will be held in due course.

Superintendent Annmarie Cowley, a senior officer responsible for policing Islington, said on at the time: “I know this death will cause shock and very real concern in Holloway and the wider Islington area.

“I share those concerns, and I want to assure local people that a thorough police investigation is under way.”

Anyone with information has been asked to call police on 101, quoting CAD 8184/27Feb.
