'Haunting' dark new ride The Curse opening this year at Alton Towers

A “haunting” dark new ride has been unveiled at Alton Towers.

The popular park, which is based in Staffordshire, is known and loved for its extensive array of attractions. The park, which is operated by Merlin Entertainments Group, boasts a theme park, water park, spa and mini golf, as well as a hotel complex.

A haven for thrill seekers, Alton Towers offers more than 40 rides and attractions, including The Smiler, which is the world's first 14 loop rollercoaster; TH13TEEN, which is the world's first vertical free fall drop rollercoaster; Oblivion, which is the world's first vertical drop rollercoaster, and many more.

The theme park usually opens from late March to early November, though many of its hotels and other attractions are open all year round. Ahead of normal opening hours resuming, Alton Towers has given fans a sneak peek at its newest addition, The Curse.

The "haunting" dark ride aims to take adrenaline junkies "on a hair-raising journey through the spectacular twist and turns of the cursed Manor". The "abandoned" Alton Manor is a haunted house attraction, designed with mystery and intrigue to give riders a thrilling and exhilarating experience.

The Resort is keeping ride details, including the backstory of the Manor's "sinister past" under wraps for now, but the ride will contain special effects and visuals never before seen from a UK theme park.

Kate McBirnie, head of Product Excellence at Alton Towers Resort, said: "Let the countdown begin. The Curse at Alton Manor is no ordinary dark ride.

"It has all the components of a supernatural tale - it's dark, compelling and promises some thrilling and scary moments along the way. Fans of eerie rides will certainly appreciate this one. More details on The Curse at Alton Manor will be revealed next month, so stay tuned for what's to come." The Curse will open this spring, 2023. Alton Towers Resort is located in Alton, Staffordshire, ST10 4DB.
