Generally, when we think of rude and entitled people, it’s “little” things, like taking up a handicapped parking spot or being too loud in public. But there are some unfortunate souls that end up having to deal with levels of entitlement that might need law enforcement to step in.
A man asked the internet what to do when he discovered that his roommate simply stole the last three months of rent and ran away. He shared screenshots of the downright bizarre and infuriating “excuses” his roommate provided while readers shared their thoughts and suggestions in the comments.
Stealing rent money is basically never acceptable

Entitlement is one thing, but theft is all too much

While the term “entitled people” gets thrown around a lot, the story here is basically theft. However, some theft is motivated by, at the very least, a need to get by, but this was so premeditated and “planned” that it reveals a “deeper” level of horrible behavior. Remember, this roommate had to lie for months about where the money was, all while preparing their exit.
The clearest “sign” of this roommate’s entitlement are the various arguments he used to justify the fact that he is absolutely being a thief. “Growing up poor” and needing to “focus on himself” are already bad excuses when it comes to maybe avoiding someone you don’t like, but are absolutely unacceptable for blatant theft.
Even worse, he does not seem to care at all what his actions mean to the man who made the post. Not only is this fully innocent person out three months of rent, he is about to be evicted basically without warning. Put yourself in his shoes, mentally delete three months of your rent from your bank balance and then give yourself a couple of days to find a new place. Not a situation anyone wants to be in ever.
Narcissists truly do not care what might happen to other people

Unfortunately, it’s more than likely that the roommate simply does not care. There is a reasonable amount of evidence that entitled people are just blatant narcissists. In other words, there is no external consequence big enough for this guy to care. After all, in his mind, he is number one at all times.
This is in many ways, the core of entitled behavior, a delusional belief that you can do whatever you want as long as it suits you. Often this behavior is annoying and delusional, like a restaurant patron making demands about the menu that are impossible. However, some, like this roommate, are a more sinister form of narcissist, as they are willing to plan. After all, the evicted roommate might be able to get his money back, but it will be a long, hard process.
There does not seem to be a “positive” update for this story as of yet, which is, sadly, not surprising, given the police’s unwillingness to get involved. Civil cases can take a long time and end up costing more than it might be worth it to this man. That being said, if the roommate had to steal three months of rent, he might not be able to fight it either.
