Hate speech and accusations of bribing voters: Parvesh Verma takes on Kejriwal in New Delhi battle

The New Delhi assembly seat is witnessing one of the most-watched triangular contests in Delhi, with former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal pitched against Congress’s former East Delhi MP Sandeep Dikshit and BJP’s former West Delhi MP Parvesh Verma.

Sreenivasan Jain spoke to Verma during the campaign. The BJP leader is trying to corner the AAP and Kejriwal over corruption, but he has been accused of distributing sarees and shoes for votes ahead of the assembly polls in Delhi. “An NGO had arranged shoes for women at a temple,” he claims, adding that he was told to just distribute them, denying all the allegations against him.

In 2022, he had made headlines for calling for a total boycott of Muslims. But Verma says, “It is absolutely wrong. I had only said it about one or two Muslims who had executed a murder.” Asked if the speech was the reason he was not given a ticket to contest the Lok Sabha polls, the BJP leader says, “My ticket was cut because I had to defeat Kejriwal by coming here.”

Verma claims it is only Kejriwal who objects to the functioning of Lieutenant Governor across the country.

Watch to know what he said when asked about the Tamil Nadu case where the matter is before the Supreme Court.
