Firefighters have been tackling a huge blaze at a former nightclub in Hastings with local residents told to shut their windows and doors, and stay away from the sea front.
Footage from the scene showed huge orange flames ripping through the building and lighting up the night sky.
There were ten fire crews tackling the blaze at the former Saturdays nightclub on George Street after arriving shortly after 7.15pm.
A ladder platform could be seen being used by firefighters to get closer to the blaze along with long hoses from the ground.
Almost 12 hours later and there are still firefighters at the scene but the operation has been scaled down and they are now "dampening down any hotspots".
Neighbours were advised to keep windows and doors closed due to the smoke while the public have been told to stay away from the sea front.
An East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "We were called at 19:17 to a fire on George Street, Hastings. Ten pumps are in attendance.
"We urge the people of Hastings to please avoid Hastings seafront this evening. All those in the area please close windows and doors."
An update from the fire service said: "We have 10 pumps, five officers, one command unit and one Arial Ladder Platform in attendance. Crews are working hard to extinguish the fire."
Then at 6am it tweeted: "The incident has scaled down and we now have two pumps on scene dampening down any hot spots."
It comes after a busy day for emergency services in the region due to treacherous conditions on the road from floods and ice.
The A26 and the A27 are among a number of Sussex roads still closed late on Wednesday night, after 48 hours of weather and travel chaos.
The freezing temperatures have caused dangerous driving conditions since Monday night - with multiple crashes reported.
The A27 has been closed eastbound between Lancing and Shoreham after a crash. The initial collision has been cleared but ground water is running onto the road causing unsafe road conditions due to the freezing temperatures.
While the A26 was briefly reopened and then closed again by police after flood water froze over.
