Hasim Rahman Jr. is not impressed with Jake Paul’s unbeaten run in boxing.
Rahman Jr., the 31-year-old son of former heavyweight champion Hasim Rahman, doesn’t put much stock into Paul’s 5-0 record given the type of opposition the YouTube star has gone up against.
Rahman Jr. is set to fight Paul, 25, in a cruiserweight contest on Aug. 6 at Madison Square Garden in New York. And he firmly believes he’s the only legit boxer Paul – who has wins over Nate Robinson, Ben Askren and Tyron Woodley – has faced in his young career.
“You ain’t fought nobody, you ain’t fought nobody,” Rahman said to Paul at Tuesday’s press conference. “Everyone you’ve fought have been their debut. I just fought somebody who was 20-0. (You’ve fought) champions in MMA, NBA champions. No boxers, no boxers. This will be your first loss.”
The press conference on Tuesday was full of heated exchanges, topped with a tense faceoff with both fighters. Rahman Jr. showed little respect for Paul and promised to put an end to what he believes to be a fabricated combat sports career.
“I’m here to end this facade he’s calling a career, so we’re going to see,” Rahman Jr. said. “We will (see). We’re going to see on Aug. 6 when Jake Paul falls. We’re definitely going to see that.”
