Hasenhuttl's 'serious player’ Tino Livramento claim explains why he's ideal for Newcastle United

Tino Livramento's former Southampton manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has already explained why the defender would be an ideal signing for Newcastle United this summer.

The Magpies are in talks with Southampton to sign the England under-21 international this summer, following the Saints' relegation from the Premier League. Livramento will provide competition for Kieran Trippier at right-back, allowing Newcastle to send Harrison Ashby out on loan.

If there is one man who can offer Newcastle insight into what to expect from Livramento more than any other then it is his former Southampton boss Hasenhuttl. The Austrian was Saints boss when they signed him from Chelsea two years ago, before he'd played a single senior game for the Blues.

The 20-year-old quickly settled in on the South Coast, with Hasenhuttl saying of the right-back: "He is a serious player. He's well developed, I know his father and his mother are taking care of him, and we only got him because we told them what plans we have for him.

"Nobody expected it, not even himself, expected him to go into a first XI Premier League squad. But when you're good, you show up, and you have a manager that trusts you and a club where you can have an immediate impact as a young player, then it was the right decision for him to come here."

With the Saints relegated though, Newcastle look set to take advantage and add to their squad one of the brightest young players in the Premier League. In keeping with the club's model since the takeover, Livramento is another example of avoiding the temptation to go after big name players, with the club's recruitment widely praised since PIF's October 2021 takeover.
