Haryana: One corruption case lodged every 2 days, most in police dept

As Haryana approaches its assembly elections, corruption has emerged as a key issue. Despite the BJP's claims of reduced corruption under their leadership, both data and public opinion suggest otherwise.

During his tenure, former chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar said that between January 1, 2015 and November 30, 2023, Haryana registered 1,536 corruption cases. The Anti-Corruption Bureau recorded 1,140 cases, while the Haryana Police reported 396 cases, averaging a new case every two days.

Faridabad had the highest number of registered corruption cases, totaling 134, followed by Gurgaon with 132, Sonipat with 105, Hisar with 101, and Karnal with 83.

The police department faced the most corruption allegations, with 366 cases, followed by the revenue department with 245 cases, the electricity department with 130 cases, and the education department with 51 cases. Many complaints were even directed at IAS officers.

In 2016, BJP MLA Gyan Chand Gupta alleged fraud in the allotment of 13 plots in Panchkula. But it wasn’t until June 2020 that Khattar handed the case over to the CBI. So did the CBI take action?
