KURUKSHETRA: The district administrations following the instructions from the Haryana state government reached out to the families of students in Ambala, Kurukshetra and Yamunanagar in the last two days, who are stuck in Ukraine amid the ongoing war with Russia.

The parents of Indian students who are stranded in Ukraine are highly tensed over their kin stuck in a war zone and they have been continuously pressing the Centre and state government through media and at their own level for their safe evacuation.

To give a sense of support to parents, a reach-out campaign has been launched in Haryana to coordinate evacuation efforts in Ukraine, as the government of India, through its embassies in Ukraine, Poland, Romania and Russia is continuously working to bring back home the stuck Indian students.

The district officials are collecting the information about stranded Indian citizens from their parents and students stuck in Ukraine also, and coordinating the same at the national level to the ministry of external affairs (MEA), through Haryana foreign coordination department, for managing their safe evacuation from Ukraine and neighbouring countries.

Kurukshetra deputy commissioner (DC) Mukul Kumar personally visited families of two Indian students in the Gurdev Nagar and Patel Nagar area city and assured them that the Centre and state governments are working to safely evacuate their children from the war-torn country.

"As per the list of government of India, there were 116 students of Kurukshetra district, who were stuck in Ukraine, of which, 34 have reached their homes safely. Some students have reached neighbouring countries after exiting Ukraine. All these citizens will be brought back home safely by the Centre and state governments", said DC Mukul Kumar.

Earlier, Kurukshetra DC held a meeting with sub-division magistrates (SDMs) of Thanesar, Shahabad, Pehowa, and Ladwa on Wednesday and took the feedback report about the students stuck in Ukraine.

Kurukshetra DC instructed all the SDMs that every day they will talk to students stuck in Ukraine from 6 am to 12 noon.

Ambala DC Vikram Singh also held a meeting with sub-division magistrates of Ambala City, Ambala Cantonment, Naraingarh and Barara on Wednesday and revealed that there are 76 students of Ambala district who are stuck in Ukraine. "I talked on a video call to a student Dinesh who is in Budapest, Hungary and assured him his safe evacuation. We are regularly in touch with families of all the students and asked them to alert the administration in case of any exigency. The families are sharing the exact location details of the students with the administration and we are coordinating further accordingly", said DC Kurukshetra.

The district administrations appealed to the parents of the students to remain patient, beware of rumours and that the government is making all possible efforts to bring back their children home safely.
