Harvey Weinstein Indicted On Additional Sex Crimes Charges

Disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein has been indicted on additional sex crimes charges in New York, as announced by Manhattan prosecutors during a hearing on Thursday. The indictment, which will remain sealed until Weinstein's arraignment on September 18, comes as the 72-year-old is recovering from emergency heart surgery at a Manhattan hospital following a procedure on Monday.

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg's office revealed that evidence of up to three additional allegations against Weinstein, dating back to the mid-2000s, has been presented to a grand jury. This development follows Weinstein's 2020 conviction on rape and sexual assault charges being overturned by an appeals court earlier this year.

Prosecutors are now determining whether the new charges will be included in the upcoming retrial or handled separately by the court. Weinstein, a central figure in the #MeToo movement, has consistently maintained that any sexual activity was consensual.

Last week, British prosecutors announced that they would no longer pursue charges of indecent assault against Weinstein. The co-founder of Miramax, a prominent film and television production company, is scheduled to appear in Manhattan court for a hearing on September 12, with the retrial tentatively set for November.
