Harvey Elliott sends Liverpool message after Inter Milan victory in Champions League

Liverpool midfielder Harvey Elliott has shared his delight at making his Champions League debut for the club.

The 18-year-old was a shock inclusion for the Reds on Wednesday night at the San Siro, as they ground out a 2-0 win.

Elliott enjoyed a breakthrough at the start of the campaign, although a serious ankle injury in September set him back. In recent weeks he has been regaining fitness and made a goalscoring return to the team in the FA Cup against Cardiff City.

Despite that impressive cameo, there was surprise from Liverpool supporters when the teenager was named in midfield alongside Thiago Alcantara and Fabinho against Inter.

Elliott was on the field for an hour before being replaced by Naby Keita. Understandably there were rusty moments from the former Fulham starlet, although he showcased his undoubted class with some smart touches.

After the game, Elliott posted a picture of himself at the 2018 Champions League final - in which Liverpool lost 3-1 to Real Madrid -, which he attended as a Reds supporter.

In the closing stages of a tight encounter at the San Siro, Liverpool were able to take control.

Roberto Firmino glanced home a header from a corner, before Mohamed Salah added a clincher before full time.

Although Liverpool still have some work to do to secure progression to the quarter-finals, realistically the Reds and Elliott can look forward to more European adventures this season.
