Harvey Elliott responds to Anfield goal and sends message to key Liverpool man

Harvey Elliott has named the Liverpool physio that was key to his recovery after a serious ankle injury and insists it's 'behind him'.

The youngster returned to action after five months on the side lines following the injury he suffered against Leeds United back in September.

He marked his comeback with a goal in front of the Kop end to help his side beat Cardiff City 3-1 and progress to the fifth round of the FA Cup.

Elliott, who came on as a second-half substitute for Naby Keita, admitted he's struggling to put into words the feeling of scoring his first goal for the club.

"It's still hard to put into words at the moment," he told ITV post-match.

"This is what I'm in the team to do, to score and assist. Thankfully it came today in front of the crowd and the fans after having a long time out.

"It's my job at the end of the day so I've just got to keep doing it. It's a moment that myself and my family will remember."

A cross from Andy Robertson landed straight at the feet of the 18-year-old who took a touch and struck an unstoppable strike on the half volley.

"It wasn't too bad," Elliott said with a smirk, referring to the finish.

"Watch the man next to me, Diogo. He's been banging them in left, right and centre for us so getting a few tips off him!

"It's nice to score but at the end of the day, how the ball came to me, I've just got to finish it so I'm thankful I was able to do it."

It's been a highly anticipated return for the former Fulham man as the injury hindered what was quickly becoming a breakthrough season for him.

He often documented each stage of his recovery on social media and now he's hailed the support from club physio Joe Lewis, as well as those closest to him.

"The list goes on, to be honest," Elliott continued.

"One man most importantly was Joe Lewis at Liverpool, one of the physios, he took me in the early hours of the morning and didn't finish until late at night.

"He got me back strong again and like I said, the list can go on, big shout out to all my family and friends as well, especially my mum and dad, they helped and supported me throughout.

"Just a massive thank you to everyone at Liverpool, the fans as well for the support and love when it happened but I'm back now and the injury is behind me."
