Harvey Elliott has vowed to "put things right" at Liverpool following their FA Cup fourth-round exit at Brighton on Sunday.
Jurgen Klopp's side crashed out of the world's oldest cup competition with a 2-1 defeat at the Amex Stadium courtesy of Kauro Mitoma's late winner. In-form Elliott had given the Reds a first-half lead with his second goal in three matches, before they were pegged back by Lewis Dunk's audacious finish.
With the score-line finely balanced heading into the latter stages, both sides tried to win it. But it was Brighton who found the all-important winner when Mitoma struck from close-range. Having won the FA Cup and Carabao Cup last season, the Reds can no longer win either competition, while they also sit merely in 10th in the Premier League.
But Elliott has chosen to remain positive and believes that he will do everything in his powers to help the Reds back to their best. "We have to keep fighting for the fans and for the badge," he told Liverpoolfc.com.
"It’s been a tough season so far. In training tomorrow and throughout the week, we have to work to put things right. It’s down to us. It’s another tough opponent in the next game. We need to look at ourselves but, at the same time, pick ourselves up.
"The reason we have been so successful is because of the amount of fight we have, the work we put in on the training pitch, and the hunger and desire to play for the fans and the club. We always believe."
Where will Liverpool finish this season? Let us know in the comments below!
Elliott is the only Liverpool player to feature in all the club's 31 matches this season, whether that be from the start or from the bench. He has also re-found some form, on a personal note, of late, having also scored in the third-round replay win at Wolves.
He added: "I’m loving it here, playing for my boyhood club, there’s nothing more I’d want to do in life. At the same time, it’s frustrating results aren’t going our way. That would be the cherry on the cake for me.
"On a personal note, it’s nice to have the backing of the manager and the coaching staff to go out and play these games. That’s what I want to keep doing. I want to keep playing for Liverpool and contributing, helping us win games and getting us up the table. Hopefully I can get these opportunities more and more and show the fans that I care with all my heart."
Liverpool are next in action when they travel to Wolves, before the Merseyside derby on Monday 13 February.
