Harvey Elliott gives complete approval as Liverpool sign his "favourite player"

Harvey Elliott is excited to work with former Fulham teammate Fabio Carvalho when the talented Portuguese prospect arrives at Liverpool this summer.

The Merseyside club have agreed a deal in principle to sign Carvalho, 19, from the Cottagers when his contract expires at the end of June. He will follow in the footsteps of Elliott, who joined the Reds in 2019 having made just three senior appearances for Fulham compared to Carvalho's 44.

The duo played together at Fulham's academy and for the club's Under-23s before Elliott secured a move to the Reds at the age of 16. He has gone on to play 20 senior games for Liverpool and spent a fruitful spell on loan at Blackburn Rovers in the 2020/21 campaign.

Meanwhile, Carvalho has just enjoyed a memorable breakthrough campaign at Fulham, helping them bounce straight back to the Premier League. Marco Silva's men stormed to the Championship title, with Carvalho scoring 11 goals and grabbing eight assists in 37 games.

When asked about Carvalho and what he could bring to Liverpool this summer, Elliott told the Liverpool Echo : "He was my favourite player to play with as a youngster to be honest at Fulham. He's got everything in him, every attribute you can think of, and that's why Liverpool have signed him.

"Me and him had a great connection, on the pitch as well as off the pitch and I will definitely look after him when he arrives. But to be honest, I don't even think I will have to do that, he will just fit in perfectly with the rest of the squad."

Elliott went on: "His best position? I mean that is for him to answer. I think he is a very versatile player, he can play anywhere, and I am sure he will be willing to just play anywhere on the pitch."

Carvalho has already spent some time in and around Liverpool's AXA training base and will officially become a Reds player on July 1 after his contract expires at Fulham. The 19-year-old will no doubt add to the Reds attacking options and could gain more minutes with Sadio Mane set to leave this summer.

Predominately a No.10, Carvalho can also play on the left-hand side and also as a false-nine. He played in the middle of an attacking midfield three last season behind Aleksandar Mitrovic as the Whites won 27 of their 46 games. Elliott, meanwhile, scored once in 12 appearances for Liverpool, six of which came in the Premier League.
