Harvey Elliott delivers exciting update as Liverpool return in sight

Liverpool starlet Harvey Elliott has sent an encouraging message in his latest Instagram post ahead of a highly-anticipated return.

The 18-year-old has been sidelined with an ankle injury for the last four-and-a-half months after he was stretchered off in the win over Leeds United at Elland Road in September.

Elliott returned to team training last month as he continues to move towards a return to competitive action in the coming weeks.

He made yet another step forward at the weekend as he featured in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Wrexham, where he played 60 minutes.

In just an hour of action, Elliott scored and provided an assist in what was a promising return.

He took to social media once again on Tuesday evening as he shared an image with manager Jurgen Klopp from a recent training session at the AXA centre in Kirkby.

"All smiles, big week," was the caption on the image, suggesting another step in his rehabilitation is imminent.

The ECHO understands that the club were planning to take their time with Elliott's recovery.

Liverpool saw little risk in pushing ahead with anything too soon, particularly for a young player whose long-term future is so bright.

While earlier indications from some sources suggested the beginning of March was the target for Elliott to return to full fitness, it remains to be seen if he is ahead of schedule.

Liverpool return to action after the international break with an FA Cup clash at home to Cardiff City on Sunday.

Fans will certainly be hopeful a return is imminent as Elliott had earned himself three starts from Liverpool's opening four games of the campaign.

With silverware up for grabs on four fronts this season, having him back in the squad and available for selection as soon as possible will be yet another boost for Klopp following the arrival of Luis Diaz from Porto last week.
