Harvester reportedly set to end its unlimited salad bar

Fans of never-ending salad at Harvester are about to be disappointed. "Have you been to a Harvester before," the phrase that welcomed diners to the well-known restaurant for years was often followed by instructions on how to use the famous Harvester salad bar. However, that could all end soon as reports that the chain is closing its iconic self-serve.

So, what will Harvester, which has a branch in Wilford, Nottingham, replace the 'all you can pack into your bowl' salad feast with? Well there will be a salad option it seems. While the days of expertly 'building' your own bowl may be gone, you will be able to queue to be served by a member of staff.

Restaurants such as Harvester and Pizza Hut became known for the buffet style addition to their menus, but it seems rising costs have put pressure on the viability of the addition. And that leads us to another blow to salad bar fans. Bacon bits, olives and beetroot chunks all appear to have been ditched with the bar itself.

Customers have already taken to social media to air their views on the subject with one diner even threatening to boycott the chain until the facility is reinstated. For almost four decades, Harvester has claimed it provides “the nation’s favourite salad bar”, telling customers: “Pile your bowl high and take as many trips as you like.” Changes were first noticed when dining restrictions were introduced at the start of the Covid pandemic and it removed self-service tongs.

However, the restaurant seems keen to listen to the views of customers. The brand stated: “We’re currently researching how to give our guests the best version of the unlimited salad bar in 2022 and beyond. We’re looking at consumer feedback, speaking to our teams across the UK, hygiene monitoring results and salad item supply as part of the process and hope to update Harvester’s salad bar fans with any changes in the coming weeks.”
