Author Haruki Murakami has written a commentary on Kazuo Ishiguro's novel "The Remains of the Day," which appears as part of a special Japanese-language edition commemorating Ishiguro's winning of the Nobel Prize in Literature last year.

The special edition was published on Wednesday by Hayakawa Publishing Corp.

Murakami, 69, met Nagasaki-born British author Ishiguro, 63, in Tokyo more than 10 years ago, when the publishing company's president, Hiroshi Hayakawa, introduced them, according to sources. They have deepened their friendship, and spoken in English with each other. They have read almost all of each other's novels.
