Hartson believes 'unsettled' Rangers have helped Celtic dominate Scottish football

John Hartson reckons Celtic's stability has helped them march ahead of Rangers - and he expects them to continue that trajectory this season.

Celtic have won the Scottish Premiership in nine out of the past 10 seasons, and despite Rangers running their Glasgow rivals close for large spells last time out, the Hoops still finished with an eight point lead at the league summit.

Hartson thinks that dominance has come down to his former club enduring a lot more consistency. Even why Ange Postecoglou quit Celtic for Tottenham Hotspur, they were able to attract former Treble winner Brendan Rodgers back to Parkhead for another crack at the job.

Meanwhile, Rangers have chopped and changed managers, overseen a high squad turnover and even witnessed a board reshuffle in recent years.

Philippe Clement is now the man in the Ibrox hot seat, but even he has admitted the club's going through a transitional period and doesn't expect his new-look squad to hit top gear quite yet.

“Celtic have been the dominant team over the last 10 or 12 years,” Hartson stated on The Football Authorities Podcast. “Celtic have won five trebles in that time.

"Ange Postecoglou did a fantastic job. You know, a brilliant manager, plays really exciting football; the Celtic way.

“Brendan Rodgers, first time around now was brilliant – winning trebles. Brendan obviously left the club, he had his own reason for that, but now he’s back and I believe he was the best man for the job.

“I just think Rangers have chopped and changed quite a lot in terms of the managers. You had Giovanni van Bronckhorst, then you had Michael Beale, you’ve now got Philippe Clement.

“The players have changed; they bring a lot of players in on loan. And I just think that Rangers haven’t quite settled in the last few years. There’s been a lot of changes there, and Celtic have managed to capitalise on that.”
