Harry Winks wanted by Leeds United as Everton and Tottenham talks continue

Leeds United have become the latest club to express an interest in signing Harry Winks this summer after Everton held talks with Tottenham Hotspur over a deal for the midfielder.

Those talks came after Frank Lampard identified Winks as someone who could bolster his midfielder options heading into the new season. However, and as reported by the ECHO yesterday, the Blues and Tottenham want two different things in terms of the transfer.

The ECHO understands that Everton are keen on a loan move for the 26-year-old, whereas Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is hoping to secure a £20m fee for the midfielder this summer.

However, the ECHO also understands that Winks' current Tottenham valuation could well drop the longer the transfer window is open. The 26-year-old still has two-years remaining on his Spurs contract, but is surplus to requirements at White Hart Lane.

But as well as being wanted by Everton, and attracting interest from three other Premier League clubs, Leeds have now also entered the race for the midfielder. The move comes as Jesse Marsch looks to improve his squad following last season’s fight against relegation.

However, despite the interest from Leeds, and the three other clubs, the ECHO understands that Winks’ preference is a move to Everton this summer as he is keen to return to playing regular first-team football after being frozen out by Antonio Conte last season. The midfielder made just 19 Premier League appearances during the 2021/22 campaign.

Tottenham chief Daniel Levy met Blues chairman Bill Kenwright for dinner on Monday evening at Scott’s restaurant in Mayfair. A number of transfers between both clubs are expected to have been on the agenda.
