Harry takes part in The Late Show skit as red carpet is rolled out for...Tom Hanks

The red carpet was rolled out for Tom Hanks instead of Prince Harry during a skit involving the pair on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

The Duke of Sussex was interviewed by the American show host in the latest media appearance for his memoir Spare, which has quickly become the fastest-selling non-fiction book ever.

The episode, aired in the US on Tuesday night, opened with Colbert telling Harry that the red carpet was not for him, but for Tom Hanks.

Colbert stood on a red carpet backstage, while fanfare was played, looked at his watch said: “Where is he?”

The Duke then walked out to trumpets playing and said: “Wow, wow, stop, stop. Stephen, not needed, but thankyou” to which Colbert replied: “What are you talking about? This isn’t for you. Get out of the way, he’s coming!” before Tom Hanks walked into shot.

Hanks said: “I’m back! Where’s my fanfare?” before Prince Harry threw red petals at the actor’s face.

The Duke was then introduced to the show by Colbert. The crowd chanted his name before the prince quipped: “Is this the chair and the spare?”.

The talk show host then asked the prince what he should be called, to which Harry replied with several nicknames including “Baz” and “Bazarooni”.

Harry was then asked if he would like a cocktail before the interview began, to which he replied “Yes please.”

A tequila cocktail was made for Harry by Colbert including a garnishing of lime.

Among the more light-hearted moments during the interview, Harry admitted he watches the Netflix series, The Crown and fact-checks the series when he does.

He also has denied boasting about killing 25 Taliban while serving as a soldier and claimed members of his family are in an active campaign to “undermine” his book.

Towards the end of the interview, Harry was questioned about his trip to the North Pole where his penis was “frost-nipped”.

Harry asked the CBS host “Can I have a drink?” before adding: “How long have you been waiting to ask that question?”

“Since I read the book yesterday,” Colbert replied.

The Duke then said: “We’ve taken quite a leap from grief and trauma to my todger.”

Colbert explained to the audience: “You were in the North Pole, and things got very cold. At what point did you realise there was a crisis at the South Pole?”

“Once I got home,” Harry replied. “It’s fine now, thankyou.”

Harry then appeared to use an expletive which was bleeped out by the show when describing a cushion that he did not have on his expedition to the North Pole.

Harry’s autobiography Spare went on sale to the public on Tuesday, and has made its way into the record books with 400,000 hardback, e-book and audio format copies being snapped up.
