Harry Styles’ song ‘As It Was’ sets new record with another chart-topping week

It’s a new record for Harry Styles.

The pop superstar’s smash hit “As It Was” recorded its 15th week atop Billboard’s Hot 100 singles chart — making him the first British artist to have a No. 1 hit in the U.S. for that long.

Elton John had two songs — “Candle in the Wind” and ”Something About the Way You Look Tonight” — go 14 weeks at No. 1 in 1997, while fellow British artist Mark Ronson had “Uptown Funk” reach hit 14 weeks in 2015.

“As It Was” becomes only the fourth song in the 64-year history of the chart to remain at No. 1 for at least 15 weeks. The longest run belongs to Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus’ “Old Town Road,” which achieved 19 weeks in the top spot in 2019.

Styles, who rose to fame with the pop group One Direction, released his third solo studio album, “Harry’s House,” in May, with “As It Was” arriving several weeks earlier as its lead single.

He completed a 15-concert residency at New York City’s famed Madison Square Garden last week.

Styles is also one of the stars of the new psychological drama film “Don’t Worry, Darling,” which opened atop the domestic box office last weekend, making $19 million.

Also achieving a milestone on the Billboard charts was Blackpink, which became the first all-girl group to have an album debut at No. 1 since 2008, according to Variety. The newly released “Born Pink” is the K-pop group’s first album to top the Billboard 200 albums chart.
