Harry Styles' frightened fans have described how they 'ran for their lives' as bullets rained down hours before the singer was due took to take to the stage in Copenhagen.
The former One Direction star, 28, was performing at the nearby Royal Arena venue last night as part of his highly anticipated Love On Tour shows.
But tragedy struck as three people were killed and four more are fighting for their lives in hospital after the shooting at a shopping centre in Denmark, yards away from the venue for the sold out gig.
Many of his fans waited excitedly inside the mall with his performance just hours away.
The plug was pulled on the concert in that aftermath of events the capital, which happened shortly after 5.30pm local time yesterday.
Harry took to social media to speak of his devastation for the victims.
His fans responded with their experience from the tragic day, with some forced to run as bullets were fired.
Harry wrote: “I’m heartbroken along with the people of Copenhagen.
"I adore this city. The people are so warm and full of love.
“I’m devastated for the victims, their families, and everyone hurting,” he continued, “I’m sorry we couldn’t be together. Please look after each other. H.”
One of his fans responded: "Just got to our temporary hotel room.. we have no luggage, our hotel was right besides the mall and my mom and i was just across from the shooting.. we ran for our lives today."
A second wrote: "I’m stuck in Copenhagen by myself, I’m so scared."
A 22-year-old Danish man was arrested by police on suspicion of the attack after being detained near the site.
The gunman was seen prowling the shopping centre armed with a rifle traditionally used for hunting in rural Denmark.
Videos from the mall showed people screaming and running in terror. Footage posted on social media appears to show the moment the man was detained.
"Denmark was hit by a cruel attack on Sunday night. Several were killed. Even more wounded," Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said in a statement late on Sunday.
"Innocent families shopping or eating out. Children, adolescents and adults.
"Our beautiful and usually so safe capital was changed in a split second," she said. "I want to encourage the Danes to stand together and support each other in this difficult time."
Harry was due to take his Love On Tour show around the world in 2020 before the pandemic brought the live music industry to a standstill.
A statement from concert promoter Live Nation read: “We are all truly devastated by the events of today and our thoughts are with the victims and their families.
“We are looking into future possibilities for the show, and hope to be able to give ticket buyers direct information as soon as possible.”
