Harry Redknapp declares interest in Tottenham job as Cristian Stellini’s future hangs by a thread

Harry Redknapp has revealed that he would return to Tottenham in an instant if asked to guide the team through the remainder of the season.

Interim coach Cristian Stellini’s future is under threat following Sunday’s 6-1 hammering at the hands of Newcastle, leaving Spurs fighting to qualify for any European football at all next season.

Former Tottenham boss Redknapp officially retired from management in 2017 after a stint with Birmingham but, aged 76, he is open to a return to north London.

“It’s very, very unlikely that they would come knocking,” he told talkSPORT.

“But if they did, then of course I would go back and take it.”

Redknapp enjoyed a 49.5 per cent win rate as Spurs manager between October 2008 and June 2012, securing multiple top-four finishes in the process.

Calls for a change in the dugout were amplified by the shock on Tyneside, which saw Stellini’s side fall 5-0 down after only 21 minutes.

Luis Enrique is among the frontrunners to take the job permanently in the summer, although there is an increased clamour for a new temporary appointment.

Ryan Mason, Tottenham’s assistant coach, is one name to be tipped to step in, as has Redknapp.

Ally McCoist said on Monday morning: “I actually think Harry wouldn’t have been a bad idea. Actually a good idea, he knows the club, knows the players.”
