A new TV show based on Harry Potter is reportedly closing in on a deal according to sources.
A series based on the best selling books by J.K Rowling could be made with each season based on each of the seven books.
Warner Bros. Discovery Inc. and HBO are reportedly coming close to signing the deal, where writers can delve further into the Wizarding World.
The film company previously turned the popular books into eight successful blockbuster movies.
They are said to be hoping the series can form part of a new streaming strategy that is set to be announced next week by HBO’s parent, Warner Bros.
Sources told Bloomberg, the company’s chief executive officer, David Zaslav, and HBO chief Casey Bloys have worked to convince Rowling to produce a new series, but the deal hasn’t been completed.
Warner Bros are reportedly wanting to do more with the extremely popular franchise.
J.K Rowling has since blessed a stage adaptation based on her magical world as well as theme park attractions and a video game.
She has yet to give the sign off to any more films or TV shows.
Warner Bros and HBO have been contacted for comment.
Recently, Harry Potter actress Evanna Lynch has come to the defence of the author after she divided opinion over her comments on transgender rights.
Rowling's backlash started in June 2020, after she slammed the term “people who menstruate” being used in replace of the word 'woman' in a tweet.
Onlookers, including celebrities, criticised her comment as being “anti-trans” and “transphobic”.
The writer addressed the backlash against her in an essay, whilst also drawing on her own experiences of allegedly overcoming domestic abuse and sexual assault.
The actor who played Luna Lovegood, Evanna Lynch, has taken to JK Rowling’s side after encouraging that others “listen” to the author’s polarising views, despite not wanting to “add to [trans peoples’] pain”.
The 31-year-old Irish star also added she was shocked that Rowling continued to garner such backlash, “especially when she wrote her essay”.
