Harry Potter star Miriam Margolyes posts health update after hospital visit

Harry Potter star Miriam Margolyes has been admitted to hospital and has told fans she "can't come home". Miriam is well known for her role as Professor Sprout in the Harry Potter films and her documentaries including Miriam's Big Fat Adventure.

Miriam has been admitted to the hospital following a chest infection and has had to stay in hospital longer than expected. Miriam first told fans that she was due to undergo a £55,000 transcatheter aortic valve implantation procedure on Thursday, May 5.

The procedure, often referred to as TAVI, aims to improve the blood flow in one's heart by replacing an aortic valve that doesn't open fully. Miriam said she chose to go private and have it done at the Royal Brompton Hospital.

In an update to fans, she thanked people for their messages and said her release from hospital has been delayed. She wrote: "I spoke too soon. Can’t come home yet: I have a chest infection. Probably tomorrow. But at least I’m resting. Love to all. Thank you for your lovely messages."

After starting in theatre Miriam made her film debut in 1969 when she starred in the British comedy A Nice Girl Like Me. The actress has also had a lot of voice roles including Mulan, Happy Feet and Flushed Away.
