Harry Potter star admits she struggled to get a job after filming ended

A Harry Potter actress has revealed on ITV Garraway's Good Stuff how she struggled to get a job after the Harry Potter series ended. Jessie Cave, 35, played Lavender Brown in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

She successfully auditioned in 2007, beating over 7,000 girls to win the part in the blockbuster franchise. Jessie admits she thought getting a job after the Harry Potter series would be easier.

After hearing Jessie speak about her writing and comedy work, host Kate Garraway, 55, said: "And that's interesting, isn't it.

"It shows that you do have to make your own opportunities. You would think that having the fame of being on something like Harry Potter, that you'd be set for life.

"But in a weird kind of way, you had to reinvent yourself."

Nodding in agreement, Jessie said: "Totally. I mean it's amazing isn't it, it's just a job and you have to keep getting jobs.

"You can't just get one job and keep expecting to get jobs for the rest of your life. You still have to work hard and be OK at what you do.

"It was a massive learning curve in a way because I think I probably did think at 20, I've got a really great role on Harry Potter, oh I'll get another role. But I didn't."

She laughed and said: "I had to work out what I was going to do. And also you can't go back to doing things you did before because I was at art school when I got Harry Potter.

"I dropped out [of art school] so I could do Harry Potter. And then suddenly I was in this limbo thinking I'm going to doing this one job then being lost.

"Then doing comedy and writing, I'm just so glad I did that, because it's informed everything I do now."

A clearly impressed Kate said: "Which is fascinating, and you do do a lot." The host continued being stunned as she said: "You look about 12 and your bones are barely formed, but you have four children!"

A smiling Jessie replied: "Yes. I didn't really plan to have four children quite quickly, it just seemed to happen."
