Harry Newman hints at huge Leeds Rhinos boost in cryptic injury update

Leeds Rhinos star Harry Newman insists he is “not done yet” this season as he waits to discover the seriousness of his latest injury setback. The homegrown centre has been in outstanding form in recent weeks as Rohan Smith’s side have embarked on a stunning charge into the play-off places.

The Huddersfield-born 22-year-old sustained another hamstring injury – his third this year – during the Rhinos’ win at Hull Kingston Rovers which forced him off during the second half. He is set to learn the severity of the injury this week but sent out a defiant message on social media yesterday which suggested he is confident of playing again this year.

Newman will be desperate to feature in Leeds’ play-off push and potentially England’s World Cup campaign. With that in mind, he posted on Instagram a picture of himself in action accompanied by the words: “2022…. Not Done Yet!”

Head coach Smith said after Friday’s win at Craven Park: “Harry has done a hamstring.

“I actually didn't ask (if it's the same) it's not that important, if it's a hamstring it's bad news. He's definitely very disappointed. He's put a lot of work into his body over this period of time and he's looking strong and fit.

“He's playing both sides of the game at a very high level and we're all disappointed. We'll wait and see what the verdict of the scan is and hopefully it's something he can come back from this year.”
