Harry McKirdy reveals Hibs absence is due to heart issue as winger opens up on 'real shock' announcement

Harry McKirdy has revealed he will undergo surgery for a heart issue after scans discovered the medical problem.

The Hibs attacker was ruled out for a 'significant period of time' according to the club earlier on Thursday, but now the former Swindon Town man has taken to social media to provide fans with an update. Hibs say regular scans conducted ahead of the new season found an issue that the club's medical team wanted to investigate further. It meant McKirdy would not be fit for action for several months after seeing a specialist.

Now it appears the 26-year-old will have surgery to address a heart issue as he shared a post to his Instagram that read: "Not the way you wanna start a season but time to get the old ticker fixed, see you all @ Christmas." Fans have since flocked to show their support for the winger, but with medical team at Easter Road confident of a full return to fitness following his rehabilitation period.

Lee Johnson admitted it was a 'real shock' to discover the issue as the Hibees jet out to Marbella for their pre-season camp. Johnson said: “This has come as a real shock for us all and has been a tough few days for Harry as we came to the bottom of what the scans meant. We’re all with him, have to rally around him and give him as much support as possible.

“We have a first-class medical department that will look after him and make sure he comes back fit and healthy.”
