Harry Maguire could be heading for the Manchester United exit door next year, according to reports. The United skipper has endured a difficult time at club level in recent times but is excelling on the international stage.
England manager Gareth Southgate ignored pleas from supporters to drop Maguire, who had lost his United place under Erik ten Hag. So far, the Three Lions boss’ faith has been repaid with three stellar performances at the World Cup.
However, question marks remain over his long-term future at Old Trafford. Ten Hag signed Lisandro Martinez over the summer, while four-time Champions League winner Raphael Varane is also a stalwart in defence.

Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth has ruled out an exit next month but can see Maguire leaving at the end of the campaign. He said: “I can't see it (Maguire leaving) happening in January. There's no international tournament in the summer.
I can see Harry Maguire staying at United until at least the summer. But, if he is in a position where he is not getting the football he wants, Gareth Southgate will then look at it and think, ‘You need to be playing regularly'. I can see something happening next summer.
“He's the captain and he's not playing. I can see something potentially happening in the summer unless there is a huge turnaround.”
In other news, Spanish outlet AS claim United are eyeing "the next Sergio Busquets". United have lacked a deep-lying playmaker since Michael Carrick hung up his boots in 2018. A well-documented chase of Frenkie de Jong failed to see the Dutchman move to United but fresh reports have linked the club with Martin Zubimendi.
The report claims United chiefs are yet to contact Real Sociedad but the player has a £51million release clause in his contract. Zubimendi made his international debut for Spain against Lithuania last year.
