Harry Maguire names big difference at Manchester United since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer sacking

Harry Maguire has praised Ralf Rangnick for the defensive transformation he has implemented at Manchester United since replacing Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

United have experienced a mixed start to life under the interim coach and are still struggling to break sides down or dominate matches.

However, there can be no denying the defensive improvement which United have begun to show in recent weeks.

United have only conceded seven goals in 10 matches under Rangnick and have managed to keep a clean sheet in four of those encounters too.

The improved defensive work is great news for club captain Maguire, but he is still demanding further improvements from his side, particularly in the way they play when in possession of the ball.

“I think there are lots of different principles that he’s brought into the club,” he told United Review. “But, for sure, we haven’t conceded as many goals, we haven’t conceded as many chances.

“It’s team effort; it’s not a back-four effort, or a goalkeeping effort [alone]. It’s a team effort. Our lives are a little bit easier from the way that they [the midfielders and forwards] are working and covering spaces in front of us, so it’s a huge effort from us all.

“But I think there’s still a lot to improve on, especially with the ball now.

“We’ve got to make sure that we carry a little bit more of a threat with the ball and look after the ball a bit better than we have done in recent weeks.”
