Harry Maguire credits Ruben Amorim for turnaround in form

Harry Maguire has opened up about his resurgence in form at Manchester United, crediting much of his recent success to the influence of new manager Ruben Amorim.

After a difficult period in his career, Magiure now feels reinvigorated and is proving his worth at Old Trafford.

The England international’s defensive showing was pivotal in United’s FA Cup victory over Arsenal on Sunday.

Manchester United Extend Maguire’s Contract

Earlier this month, Manchester United exercised a one-year extension clause in Maguire’s contract, keeping him at the club until the summer of 2026.

Maguire revealed the pivotal role Ruben Amorim played in the decision, saying, “Ruben said to me that when it came across to him that I had an option [in my contract], he said it was a no-brainer for him.

“It’s given me confidence and belief that they want me at the club and part of this project.”

Maguire’s Turnaround in Form

Since Amorim’s arrival, Maguire has been a consistent presence in United’s lineup, missing just one game in the Carabao Cup against Tottenham.

Reflecting on his improvement, Maguire told The Mirror, “I think my first couple of years at United was probably the best part of my career. I’m 31 now, coming up to 32 in a couple of months, but I’m getting back to that level.”

Maguire also acknowledged the challenges he faced during Ralf Rangnick’s tenure as interim manager, admitting, “There’s no doubt I had a tough year in my third season when Ralf took over.

“I wasn’t at my best, I knew that, I knew I needed to find something to stay at this club because it demands high standards, and I feel like I’ve found something. Mentally and physically, I feel good.”

Focused on Restoring United’s Glory

Despite United’s struggles in the current Premier League campaign, Maguire remains optimistic about the club’s trajectory.

“I want this club to be back fighting for titles and not fighting where we are in the table right now. We’ve got a long way to go,” he said.

Maguire and United return to action on Thursday, facing relegation-threatened Southampton at Old Trafford.
