Harry Kane tops England players in Ballon d’Or but named behind Tottenham teammate Heung-min Son

Harry Kane was named the top England player for 2022 at the Ballon d’Or awards but finished behind Heung-min Son in voting.

The prestigious awards, which are being revealed throughout Monday evening, saw the Tottenham star placed 21st out of the 30 candidates.

Kane edged national team colleagues Trent Alexander-Arnold and Phil Foden, who finished level 22nd alongside Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva.

Son placed 11th and behind Mohamed Salah, who he shared the Premier League Golden Boot with in the previous campaign.

Antonio Rudiger finished equal 25th for the Ballon d’Or after his efforts with Chelsea in the 2021/22 campaign.

Darwin Nunez, Christopher Nkunku, Joao Cancelo, Joshua Kimmich and Mike Maignan were named alongside the German, now at Real Madrid, at the bottom of the voting leaderboard.

Madrid striker Karim Benzema is strongly expected to win the 2022 Ballon d’Or having led his club to LaLiga and Champions League glory.
