Tottenham’s star striker Harry Kane has shared a sweet photo with Ella Markham, who he made a Spurs team mascot after she received horrific abuse online.
Ahead of tonight’s final match of the Premier League season Kane tweeted a photo of him and Ella, dressed in Spurs’ gear, with their arms around each other.
He wrote: “Amazing to meet Ella before today’s game. So positive and happy! Inspiring.”
The England captain invited 16-year-old Ella, who has Down’s Syndrome, to be a Spurs mascot after football fans viciously trolled a video posted online of her dancing.
She is set to walk on with the team at Spurs’ at Tottenham Stadium tonight.
Her father, Neil, retweeted Kane’s photo, writing: “Wow! Thank you so much for making this happen. Special day for our family. England captain, spurs legend and Ella’s hero.”
Mr Markham shared a video of his daughter dancing after Spurs’ defeat to West Ham two weeks ago.
He included the caption “the result is never the most important thing” alongside the adorable video of Ella dancing which was filmed during her first visit to the new stadium.
After he filmed the moment, observed by another group of fans, Mr Markham said his daughter told her mother: “They lost but I made them smile.”
After their incredible 3-2 victory over Ajax at the Johann Cruyff arena another video was shared of Ella’s jumps of joy at their win.
Ella received an outpouring of support from Spurs fans and players after her father highlighted the abuse she had received and the club invited her to be a mascot at tonight’s Spurs v Everton game.
