Harry Kane sent brutal penalty feedback as Lionel Messi shows Tottenham ace 'how it's done'

Fans have ridiculed Harry Kane for his penalty miss against France in the World Cup quarter-final after Lionel Messi's effort from 12-yards versus Croatia. The Tottenham striker was subject to great criticism after he blazed a spot-kick over the bar against teammate Hugo Lloris.

Kane, who had netted a penalty earlier in the fixture, failed to equalise for the Three Lions and a place in the semi-finals slipped from the team's grasp. As if often the case on social media, he was mocked for his misplaced effort, though things did die down fairly quickly.

That was until Messi dispatched an excellent penalty into the top-right corner to hand Argentina the lead over Croatia. Kane was quickly thrown back into the spotlight by fans, with supporters taking to social media to ridicule the Spurs and England captain once again, telling Kane to 'take notes' and learn from the seven-time Ballon d'Or winner.

So, with that being said, football.london has collated some of the best reactions to Messi's penalty.

@theplantainshow tweeted: "That’s what Kane tried and failed to do. Thankfully for Argentina, Messi has never been associated with Spurs."

@finnyb29: "Messi showing Harry Kane how it's done. Same attempt but different outcome."

@Wild_Squirtle: "Messi showing Kane how to stick a penalty into the top of the net there."

@MakThatGuy: "Messi did what Kane tried to do and failed miserably to do on Saturday."

@ShortboySen: "Messi showing Harry Kane how to put the ball in the top corner from the penalty spot."

Following England's defeat to the reigning champions at the weekend, Kane took to social media to take responsibility for the Three Lions' exit. On his Instagram account, he wrote: "Absolutely gutted. We’ve given it everything and it’s come down to a small detail which I take responsibility for.

"There’s no hiding from it, it hurts and it’ll take some time to get over it but that’s part of sport. Now it’s about using the experience to be mentally and physically stronger for the next challenge. Thanks for all the support throughout the tournament - it means a lot."
