Harry Kane's wife breaks silence and says she's 'proud' of England captain after defeat

Harry Kane's wife Katie Goodland has broken her silence following England's loss to France in the FIFA World Cup yesterday.

England crashed out of the competition after a devastating 2-1 loss to France at the Al Bayt Stadium in Qatar on Saturday night.

Katie and the rest of the WAGs were there to support the Three Lions during the game and were later seen in tears and consoling their partners after the match ended.

The game was particularly difficult for England captain Harry, 29, after he kicked a second penalty over the bar and was left distraught as the final whistle was blown.

Following the match, Harry's wife Katie kept quiet on social media but has since broken her silence.

The WAG shared a photo of her husband with England manager Gareth Southgate wiping away Harry's tears on her Instagram and wrote on top: "Always proud".

She then re-shared a post from David Beckham, who had some comforting words for the England team. Footie legend David, 47, wrote: "Our boys will continue to grow.. It’s always the worst feeling waking up after being knocked out of a tournament but our players , Gareth the staff and all our fans can be proud of this team…

"It takes a true leader to step up in these moments and that’s what our captain did , the next time it will be a different ending we walk away with our heads held high @england".

Finally, she posted a photo of the pitch shared by England's official Instagram page and wrote on top: "What a team, our time will come" followed by a red heart emoji.

It comes after the England captain took full responsibility for the team's exit from the World Cup in a tweet.

"Absolutely gutted," Kane said on Twitter. "We've given it everything and it’s come down to a small detail which I take responsibility for. There's no hiding from it, it hurts and it’ll take some time to get over it but that’s part of sport.

"Now it's about using the experience to be mentally and physically stronger for the next challenge. Thanks for all the support throughout the tournament – it means a lot."

It comes after Alan Shearer said the penalty miss will 'haunt' the England captain.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live about Kane's miss, Shearer said: "That’s the life of a centre-forward. You put yourself in those positions and it will haunt Harry for the rest of his life. But that is what you have to put up with as a forward – you win some and you lose some.

"You don’t score every one and some chances mean more than others and it will hurt like hell. The biggest one I ever missed was against Sunderland and it still haunts me to this day.

"He won’t sleep well for a long time, that’s his personality and I know how much it means to him and the rest of the team. He will think he has cost England.

"We look at it a different way – he has saved us on many occasions. It hurts. It really hurts but you can imagine how the players feel if it hurts us so much."
