Harry Kane's chances of following Gareth Bale rated after Tottenham hero's PGA Tour debut

Leyton Orient midfielder George Moncur has opened up on the quality of Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane on the golf course.

Moncur spent a number of years playing with Kane as a schoolboy during the pair's time together in the academy at Spurs and remained in contact with each other through regular rounds of golf. It has been well documented in recent months just how good on the greens Kane is, with Tottenham's record goalscorer playing off scratch.

The 29-year-old could also follow in the footsteps of recently retired Spurs legend Gareth Bale after refusing to rule out a career in professional golf last summer once he hangs up his boots. Speaking in an interview with the Daily Mirror, Moncur recalled stories of his time on the course with Kane, before going on to say how happy he is at how the England striker's career has panned out.

He said: "We used to play every Sunday – me and my brother against Harry and my dad – in a Ryder Cup format at Woolston Manor.

“I can't remember who came out on top more often, but his swing was a bit uneasy on the eye – although he was a good striker of the ball – and he was pretty handy around the greens. His handicap was only five or six back then, and I think it's even lower now.

“I don't speak to him as much as I used to because I've moved clubs a few times and he's stayed put, but we're still in touch and of course I'm chuffed for him that he broke the Spurs goalscoring record the other day. He's turned into a phenomenal player.”

Bale announced his retirement from professional football last month, earning the last of 111 international caps as he led Wales to the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, their first appearance on the global stage in 64 years. He made his PGA Tour debut in the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am earlier in February, finishing 16 under par paired with professional golfer Joseph Bramlett.
