Harry Kane open to restarting Tottenham contract talks amid Manchester United transfer link

Harry Kane is open to starting contract talks with Tottenham next month.

Kane has consistently said he wants to succeed with Spurs and that still holds true, despite their troubled form and uncertainty over the future of head coach Antonio Conte.

The England captain has entered the final 18 months of his deal and was not interested in opening talks before leading his country at the mid-season World Cup, while Tottenham are reluctant to begin negotiations while their focus is on the January transfer window.

But while Kane is in no rush to put pen to paper, the 29-year-old is open to starting talks with the club in February for the first time since August 2021.

Kane has been linked with a summer move to Manchester United but his priority remains winning trophies with his boyhood club, who visit Fulham on Monday night before an FA Cup fourth-round tie at Preston this weekend.

They are also preparing for a Champions League last-16 tie against AC Milan, and remain in the race for the Premier League’s top four - despite a poor run of performances and results.

Kane would presumably want assurances over the club's ambitions and prospects before committing and, if a new deal cannot be reached before the summer, Spurs face the prospect of either allowing their talisman to enter the final year of his deal or selling him in the off-season.

Conte's own future remains up in the air, with reports in Italy over the weekend claiming contract talks with the club have stalled and that he will walk away at the end of his current deal in the summer.

Adding to the uncertainty, on Friday Tottenham's managing director Fabio Paratici, who has been in charge of the football side of the club since summer 2021, was banned for two-and-a-half years by the Italian Football Federation (FIGC) for his part in alleged financial irregularities at Juventus, where he worked for more than a decade.

The ban currently covers just Italian football, although it is expected to be extended to the whole of Europe, which would put Paratici's position at Tottenham in jeopardy. Spurs are still waiting for clarification for the full reasons for the verdict, with Paratici expected to appeal the decision.
