Harry Kane makes Tottenham admission ahead of Nottingham Forest clash

Tottenham star striker Harry Kane claims they haven’t recovered from a ‘dagger in the heart’ FA Cup defeat to Sheffield United, ahead of Saturday's Premier League clash with Nottingham Forest.

The Reds make the journey to North London for a 3pm kick off looking to build on their 2-2 draw with Everton in their last outing. Spurs, meanwhile, are looking to bounce back from the disappointment of three losses in the last week.

Their 1-0 defeat to Championship side Sheffield United in fifth round of the FA Cup was followed by a 1-0 loss to Wolves last weekend in the Premier League. Antonio Conte’s men then failed to make it to the last eight of the Champions League on Wednesday, their 0-0 draw with AC Milan seeing the Italian progress 1-0 on aggregate.

The performance and result in midweek promoted some fans to voice their frustration at full-time. It also leaves Spurs with no silverware left to play for this season, with finishing in the top four their sole aim. Tottenham are currently fourth in the table, three points ahead of Liverpool in fifth.

And ahead of the game against Forest, Kane says only having one aim at the end of the season is not good enough for the club.

“Where we’re at as a club, we should be winning trophies. That’s always the aim,” he said following the draw with Milan.

“The top four [being our only target] is a consequence of not playing as well as we want to play. Now that’s all we can fight for so that’s going to be the goal and hopefully we can achieve that come the end of the season.

“But for sure, it’s not enough for this club. Top four [alone] is not good enough for anyone at this club, especially the fans. They have the right to voice their opinion.

“The last week especially just hasn’t been good enough. Before the Sheffield United game, the season could have been a whole lot different.

“You go through there, you take that momentum into the league game [at Wolves] and this game. But I feel like that loss last week put a dagger in our hearts and as you can see we haven’t really recovered from that.”
