Harry Kane makes Golden Boot prediction in bid to end England's World Cup hoodoo

Harry Kane is targeting another Golden Boot - because that means England will have a good tournament.

Three Lions captain Kane was top scorer at the last World Cup and has got another award in his sights even if he insists team success is his No1 goal.

But Kane, talking to the Lions’ Den Show, said: "It is not the main thing I’m going for, but I know if I do end up with the Golden Boot, it will be good for the team... a good bonus.

"I’m excited, a World Cup is a special occasion. I think for most professionals it is the biggest tournament you can play in as a player, and I have been lucky enough to do one and it was one of the greatest experiences of my life."

Kane says the support of travelling England fans will be crucial for success for Gareth Southgate’s men. He added: "It’s going to be massive. I remember when we was out in Russia in our own little bubble. We saw all the videos from back home going crazy, it makes a big difference, it motivates us to be successful.

"We want to make the fans proud and happy. Of course, there will be some in the stadiums, we always have great support, but most will be at home and we just want to make them proud."

Do you think England will win this year's World Cup in Qatar? Let us know in the comments below!

England haven't won the World Cup since their triumph on home soil in 1966. They've reached the semi-finals twice during the last 56 years - including in Russia four years ago. The Three Lions have reached the quarter-finals on four other occasions.

Furthermore, England haven't won a major competition since 1966. The closest they came was 14 months ago when they reached the final of Euro 2020. Frustratingly for Southgate's side, they lost on penalties to Italy at Wembley after a 1-1 draw in normal time.

Despite England's poor tournament record, Kane is confident of success. "We have to believe we can win it," the England skipper told Sky Sports. "I look back at England 10, 15 years ago and it was almost [like] we were scared to say we wanted to win it.

"I think one of the big shifts that we've made over the last four or five years with Gareth is not being afraid to say that. Look, we're going to this tournament to win it because we believe we can. It'd be wrong to think otherwise.

"What's the point of going to a World Cup and not believing that you can bring the trophy home? It's going to be tough and we're going to have to work extremely hard, have a little bit of luck and have a lot of things go our way to achieve that."

England's World Cup opener is against Iran on Monday before they take on the United States four days later. Their final group game is against Wales on November 29.
