England are optimistic over Harry Kane’s ankle injury following scans ahead of Friday’s World Cup clash with USA.
The Three Lions captain was tackled from behind by Iran’s Morteza Pouraliganji during Monday’s 6-2 win, but played on for a further half an hour until the 75th minutes, when he was replaced by Callum Wilson.
Kane has suffered from ankle injuries in the past, suffering ligament damage five times between September 2016 and April 2019, and was spotted following the game with light strapping on the ankle and sporting a slight limp. He underwent a scan on Wednesday.
“Yeah I think he’s good, obviously a little but sore, but I think he’s fine, he was out on the grass with us,” goalkeeper Jordan Pickford told reporters on Wednesday at England’s training base.
“It’s good because he’s our captain.”
In September of this year, he revealed that working with a new personal physiotherapist helped him to feel “free” on the pitch and overcome the ankle injuries that had hampered his career.
Kane, is chasing the England all-time scoring record and needs three goals to surpass Wayne Rooney’s tally of 53, is understood to have taken part in a planned indoor recovery session yesterday with the other 10 players who started against Iran.
