Harry Kane gives his verdict on Daniel Levy's Tottenham Hotspur Stadium statue vision

Harry Kane has admitted that having a statue outside Tottenham Hotspur Stadium is "not going to make or break" his career. Coming through the system at Tottenham, the striker became the club's all-time top goalscorer at the beginning of February with his winner against Manchester City seeing him surpass Jimmy Greaves' total of 266 goals for the club.

Playing a pivotal role for the Lilywhites since breaking through into the first team, chairman Daniel Levy recently revealed that he hopes there is a statue of the Tottenham striker outside the club's stadium in the future. They were words that the player certainly appreciated.

"It’s not really my decision, I guess," he said in an interview with Sky Sports. "I’m really respectful of the club and it’s a club that I’ve grown up at. I’ve been here since I was 11 years old, so almost 19 years now. I’ve been here a long time. I feel like we’ve achieved a lot in my career even though we haven’t got the trophies to show for it.

“A statue is not something that’s going to make or break my career. I appreciate the words the chairman said about me. But ultimately what I can do is on the pitch and I feel like I’m giving my all in every moment in every game and just trying to help the team as much as possible."

Kane's goal against Crystal Palace last Saturday saw him move ahead of Wayne Rooney in the Premier League all-time top goalscorers list after notching his 209th strike in the top flight. With Alan Shearer the only player now ahead of him, Kane has made it clear that he wants to surpass the former Newcastle United man's 260 Premier League goals.

“For sure it’s something I want to do. I think whenever you get close to these type of records, all it does is drive you to try to achieve them," admitted the England captain.

“But bit by bit. I just like to focus on season by season and if I can score a few and help the team win this season then in a couple of years we’ll see where I’m at and how close I am. Now I’m this close to it, for sure, it’s something I’d love to achieve."
