Harry Kane given time off by Tottenham as England stars' post-World Cup 2022 plans detailed

Harry Kane has been given a week off as he tries to recover from his World Cup misery.

Kane was left devastated after missing a late penalty in the quarter-final with France as England crashed out against the world champions. England captain Kane was in tear at the final whistle and looked utterly shell-shocked afterwards as he admitted he felt completely responsible for the defeat.

Tottenham striker Kane had scored an earlier spot kick but his miss against club mate Hugo Lloris denied England the chance to equalise and ended their World Cup hopes.

Kane is now due back at Tottenham next Monday, December 19, along with Eric Dier and they are back in action on Boxing Day at Brentford.

Tottenham boss Antonio Conte is expected to speak with Kane on his return from Qatar to check on his state of mind. Kane admitted after the game that the defeat and penalty miss “will hurt for a long time” and there must be fears about how he will recover mentally.

It also cost him the chance to overtake Wayne Rooney ’s England goal record, having drawn level on 53 goals with his first penalty. Kane will now have very little time to recover after what must go down as the worst moment of his career with other England players also returning to their clubs.

Son Heung-Min returns to Tottenham on Tuesday, December 13, having spent a week off after South Korea’s exit to Brazil. Richarlison is due back next Monday after Brazil went out to Croatia.

The Football Association allowed players to make their own way home or catch the England flight back to the Midlands on Sunday.

Several have gone for short foreign holidays, some have gone nearby in the Middle East while clubs also have training camps in Dubai such as Arsenal and Liverpool.

Chelsea's England stars, Mason Mount, Raheem Sterling and Conor Gallagher, are expected to return to their club this week to prepare for the League game against Bournemouth on December 27.
