Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has broken his silence regarding the controversial penalty decision during the 2-1 win over Brighton and Hove Albion.
The Spurs star went down after colliding with Adam Lallana and was awarded the penalty, despite some arguing that the striker had initiated the foul by allowing the former Liverpool midfielder to jump over him.
Then following a VAR review, Kane scored from the spot to send Jose Mourinho's side on their way to their first home Premier League win of the season.
However, the 27-year-old has since been hit with accusations that he dived to earn the spot-kick.
Something he strongly disagrees with and has explained why referee Graham Scott, who initially awarded a free-kick, was right to listen to the advice of Jonathan Moss who reviewed the incident and ruled the foul occurred just inside the area.
"From my point of view the ball was in the air, I've tried to put my body in between the player to shield the ball as if you would from a goal kick," Kane told Sky Sports.
"He has jumped into the back of me with quite a bit of force, which obviously put me to the floor.
"The ref gave it as a free-kick, VAR gave it as a foul, from my point of view I can understand maybe it's a 50-50 decision, it's not a definite foul you get all the time.
"But you definitely get five out of 10 of them in a game.
"Just the fact it was turned into a penalty it then becomes more of a talking point, but that's why VAR is there.
"They have a look at it, they decide if they think it's a foul, the ref and the VAR both did and that's why I got the penalty."
Martin Keown and Gary Lineker are among those to have spoken out over the Kane incident, with the latter taking to social media to air his views.
"Thought Harry Kane bought that one," he tweeted.
"Just backed into [Adam] Lallana and also not convinced it was inside the box."
